Project Name: YJA 2008 Convention
Your Name: Rutul Shah / Bhavik Shah
- What Vision2020 Gap are you filling?
We want to create the next generation of strong Jain leaders
- What problem are you solving?
1) We aim to create unity across the nation among many of our Jain youth
2) We aim to spread knowledge of Jainism to our youth
- Why are you solving it?
We want to assure that current Jain youth will carry the Jain vision into the future
- What is your solution?
We are planning to host a 3-day convention in July 2008 which 1) will allow Jain youth to interact and bond with other Jains of similar age from across the country and 2) will further their knowledge about Jainism.
- Who is your target audience? Where is it applicable?
Our target audience is Jain youth, ages 14-29, across the nation.
- Has a related problem been solved? Where? By who? Can you partner with someone?
The YJA board hosts ongoing events targeted at Jain youth. Although never on a scale as big as the proposed bi-annual convention, smaller events allow the youth of specific regions to interact and learn about Jainism.
- Resources Needed
- People / Volunteers: ~700 participants will attend the convention. Nearly 100 youth and adult volunteers, primarily from the mid west will work together to organize this convention.
- Consultants / Suppliers / Services: Website development, souvenirs, IT, audio/visual, security.
- Financial – How much will you require? The total budget will be ~$300,000. ~200,000 will come from participants and the remainder from fundraising.
- What type of talent do you need? Do you have the right team? Are you the right leader?
We need a variety of volunteers and leaders with experience in a number of areas. This will include leaders with experience in such areas as fundraising, organization, event planning, logistics and PR.
- How will you create awareness and promote the project?
Advertising via the internet, local Jain centers across the country and Jain-related publications.
- How will you get the funding?
Fundraising will come from Jain Centers, individuals and specific relevant organizations.
- What are the first 100 day, 200 day 300 day milestones? How will the product be sustained?
We are still in the planning stages and have yet to create specific milestones.

Look at YJI as an outsourcing partner

Nurturing the young is very crucial, YJA 2008, I like and support the idea, YJA has come a long way and the pioneers could use recognition and attention
Create more unity among young people
Ongoing event
Build a template from past successes
A Must, Youths need more training
Continuous of YJA; Need to have a YJA in the South
Convention to address youth is needed; too many kids getting freaky
Sure, why not, YJA should go to different places so different people get leadership opportunities; What do they plan to do different from the past? What is different about this Jain convention?
Needed; Publicity early & frequently
Great idea, needs to continue improving; As to enlarge scope, more resources needed
A youth networking platform; It is not a problem because YJA is done whether it is a project or not
Already going on - not a new project; Their need is more in fundraising
Must have
Simplification of message; Simplification should be door of entry, it must advance from there
Already currently a project
Each convention is a milestone in the youth community and creates a new crop of leaders; This is already well supported and may not require the special resources of LRP
YJA convention should become magnet to bring more young/youth Jains in the mainstream movement of JWOL
